Patna, Oct 10 (IANS) In an important political development ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, former Muzaffarpur MP Ajay Nishad rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday evening.
Nishad formally returned to BJP along with his wife Rama Nishad.
Bihar BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal got him party membership at the state headquarters and he was welcomed into the party.
Ajay Nishad, who hails from a prominent political family, had previously represented Muzaffarpur in the Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket in 2014 and 2019.
However, after being denied a ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he switched to Congress and contested from Muzaffarpur, but lost to BJP’s Rajbhushan Nishad by a margin of 2.34 lakh votes.
After the victory of Rajbhushan Nishad and his induction as Minister of State in the Narendra Modi government, Ajay Nishad’s closeness to the BJP reportedly strengthened, culminating in his formal withdrawal.
Ajay Nishad’s father Jai Narayan Prasad Nishad was an experienced leader, who was a three-time MP from Muzaffarpur and also held the post of minister in the central government.
As the assembly elections are approaching, speculations have intensified that BJP may field either Ajay Nishad or his wife Rama Nishad from Kudhani assembly seat of Muzaffarpur. Party insiders see his return as a strategic move aimed at consolidating the votes of the Nishad community in the region.
Ajay Nishad’s return has also come amidst the murmur of political restructuring in Bihar.
Earlier, four JDU leaders, including former Purnia MP Santosh Kushwaha, joined the RJD, indicating heightened activity across party lines ahead of the elections.
Apart from Santosh Kushwaha, former JDU MLA Rahul Sharma, Sitting’s son Chanakya Prakash
Santosh Kushwaha, who had contested from Purnea and lost to independent candidate Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav in 2024.
