East Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Ian Blair died at the age of 72.
Ian Blair, who ran a force from 2005 to 2008, took a seat as a crossbench colleague in 2010 when he became Lord Blair of Botan. He was earlier night in 1999.
His death was confirmed by Christ Church OxfordWhere he was an honorary student.
In a statement on Friday, Christ Church Oxford said: “Christ Church community would like to expand their condolences to the family of Ian Blair, who died at the age of 72, who died at the age of 72.
“Lord Blair, an alumnus student of Christ Church and honorary student (partner), from 2005 to 2008 served as Commissioner of Metropolitan Police.”
Often a controversial senior police officer cut his career when he was hit by a ax from the Scotland Yard by Tory Mayor Boris Johnson.
Until that point, he worked on the job despite the uproar due to the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, which the police had wrongly shot for a suicide bomber at Stockwell Tube station in July 2005.

Lord Blair was the chief constable of the police for two years before becoming the Deputy Commissioner of Mate in 2000, doing top jobs after five years.
