Montreal:
Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, who struck a free trade deal with the United States but whose legacy was tarnished by revelations of improper business dealings with arms dealers, has died.
Moroney’s daughter, Caroline Moroney, posted on social media platform X on Thursday that Moroney died peacefully surrounded by her family. He is 84 years old.
Mulroney said in a social media post in late August 2023 that she underwent heart surgery in August and was treated for prostate cancer earlier last year.
Moroney, a corporate lawyer-turned-businessman, led the center-right Progressive Conservatives to a historic victory over Pierre Trudeau’s Liberals in 1984.
