Liz Truss says Donald Trump is more aggressive towards Iran, China
Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss has given her support to Donald Trump ahead of the high-stakes US presidential election.
Ms Truss told the BBC that “the world was a safer place” when Donald Trump was US president.
“I’m not saying that I agree with absolutely everything he says. However, I do agree that the world has become a safer place during Donald Trump’s tenure as president of the United States,” she said.
Liz Truss says Trump is more aggressive towards Iran and China. She also praised Trump’s support for Ukraine.
“It has to be,” she told British news broadcaster LBC when asked if she would like to see Trump in the White House.
“He has been much more effective at preventing the expansion of aggressive regimes, and I think if he were re-elected in 2020, we would be in a different situation,” Truss said.
The support comes as Donald Trump appears in court as the first former US president to be criminally charged.
The 77-year-old is accused of falsifying business records in an attempt to cover up a sexual encounter with adult film actress Stormy Daniels to protect his 2016 campaign from negative publicity.
Trump faces three other criminal cases, centered on his hoarding of top-secret documents after leaving office and his alleged unprecedented attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden.
He is also the only U.S. president to be impeached twice.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s plans to return to the White House are stymied by a majority of voters who believe he is too old to serve another four years.
