Former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood has been charged with four counts of rape in addition to a number of sexual offences.
The Metropolitan Police said the charges against the 68-year-old man relate to alleged attacks against seven women between 1983 and 2016.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy of the Metropolitan Police Service said: “It takes courage to come forward and report allegations of this nature. The women who did so have put their trust in us and we will continue to provide them with all available support.”
“Our investigation is open and we would encourage anyone who has been affected by this matter or has information to come forward and speak with us. A dedicated team of investigators is available via email at CIT@met.police.uk. Any reports will be dealt with by specialist officers in complete confidentiality.
“Help is also available by contacting the independent charity, Rape Crisis at 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”
Westwood will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 11 November.
