Former Test cricketer Michael Slater reportedly collapsed in an Australian court on Tuesday after he was refused bail on more than a dozen charges, including some related to stalking. According to local media reports, a Queensland magistrate rejected the 54-year-old’s bail application. The 54-year-old man fell to the ground and had to be helped up by court staff. The TV commentator and former batsman has been charged with domestic violence as well as common assault and unlawful stalking.
Among the charges against him were Slater sending unwanted text messages and making threatening phone calls over the past six months, police said.
He is due to appear in court again at the end of May.
The court heard Slater suffered from mental health issues that could lead to “impulsive and reckless” behavior, ABC News reported.
Slater played 74 Test matches between 1993 and 2001 and scored over 5,000 runs for Australia, including 14 centuries.
He also played 42 one-day internationals before retiring in 2004.
