Foreigners attended North Korea’s first Pyongyang marathon in six years

North Korea held its first Pyongyang International Marathon in six years on Sunday, in which hundreds of runners took them to the streets of the capital and by citizens.

Foreign athletes came to the city before the competition organized in 1912 to celebrate the birth of his founding leader Kim Il Sung.

AFP photos featured foreign runners who crossed the initial line at Kim Il Sung Stadium, some took photos on their phone, as North Korean audiences made him happy.

Another image showed the Elite North Korean and foreign runners who competed on the streets of Pyongyang, showing the route to cheer the citizens.

Another photo shows the North Korean audiences in the stand, which is cheer with sticks.

The marathon is the largest international sports program in the repetition country.

The race provides a rare opportunity to run the visitors tightly through the roads of the capital.

The images posted on Instagram account of Simon Cockerel, General Manager, Korio Tours, gathered to see the citizens of Pyongyang to see Pyongyang’s citizens.

Cockerel wrote, “Some pictures of today’s Pyongyang marathon in North Korea. There is no wonderful incident and no race.”

The final edition of the Pyongyang Marathon was held before the epidemic in 2019, during which the atomic-headed state sealed its boundaries in an attempt to include the virus.

Foreign participants are currently in the capital on a six-day visit organized by the Beijing-based travel agency Korio Tours, describing themselves as an exclusive travel partner of the marathon.

Beijing -based firm said on its website, “Pyongyang Marathon is a very unique experience because it offers an opportunity to interact with the locals.”

“An experience is really like no other.”

The marathon is listed on the website of Global Governing Body World Athletics.

In 2019, around 950 foreigners participated in the race, above about 450 last year. About 180 runners from abroad were expected to participate this year.

“North Korea is a complex and attractive place that conspires many people,” Cockerel recently told the Australian Broadcaster SBS.

“And when it is not for all, it definitely appeals to the eager people about the experience of going to such a country and can see what they can do.”
