Food Safety Administration top priority: DC Srinagar

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Following the instructions of Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, a team of Food Safety Department conducted intensive market check to inspect various food outlets in different parts of the city.

Under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner, Yameen-ul-Nabi, the food security team along with the team of food safety officers, along with the team of mobile food testing vans, inspected food trading installations to assess food storage guidelines in Sanat Nagar, Bagh-e-Mehatab, Lal Nagar Chanapora, Housing Colony Chanpora and other markets.

During the drive, food business operators (FBOs) were made sensitive to the importance of proper storage practices, especially for high -risk foods such as packed drinking water, carbonated water, milk and milk products. Officials insisted that exposing such items directly into the sun can compromise their quality and safety of products.

All FBOs were directed to strictly follow the food safety rules, ensuring that high -risk foods are stored in appropriate conditions to prevent contamination and decline. Non-transportation will attract action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, which strengthens the department’s commitment to consumer welfare and public health.

The Food Safety Department urged businesses to maintain safe storage practices and assured continuous vigilance through regular inspection to prevent violations.

To mention that Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohi-ul-Din Bhat called a meeting with key stakeholders of various food industry associations, including Bakery and Confectionery Association, Hotel and Restaurant Association, Fruit and Vegetable Street Vendor Association (Batamalu) and Bachar Association.

During the meeting, DC emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest food safety and hygiene standards in all areas. He instructed all associations to ensure that food production, especially bakery items, followed strict quality control measures.

Highlighting the importance of freshness in food consumption, he urged bakery growers to avoid preparing items far away and instead in alignment with consumer needs, focus on producing fresh quantities daily, daily.

DC reiterated that food safety remains the top priority and urged all stakeholders to cooperate in implementing the best practices for the safety of public health.
