head FBIof New York The FBI field office has been named co-deputy director of the bureau, replacing Dan Bongino, who recently departed, an FBI spokesman said Friday.
Christopher Raia helped lead response to deadly truck attack new orleans On New Year’s Day last year, he was selected to head the New York field office in April after serving as a senior counterterrorism official at FBI headquarters. A former Coast Guard officer, Raia joined the FBI in 2003, where during his two-decade career he investigated violent crime, drugs and gangs and oversaw counterterrorism and national security investigations.
A career FBI agent, Raia was more conventionally chosen than Bongino to be the FBI’s No. 2 man. trump card Administration last year.
Raia is expected to serve as co-deputy director Andrew BaileyThe former Missouri attorney general was appointed last August. He plans to start work next week.
He became head of the New York field office after his predecessor, James Dennehy, was forced to retire. James Dennehy has reportedly resisted Justice Department efforts to vet agents involved in politically sensitive investigations.
Bongino announced last month that he was leaving the bureau after a brief and tumultuous tenure. His term officially ended last week.
New York has not named a direct successor for Raya.
