Udaipur: Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Tuesday stressed the need to develop globally benchmark destinations through a dual focus on destination development and destination management.
He was speaking at the two-day State Tourism Ministers’ Meeting that began here, in which tourism ministers and senior officials from all states and union territories came together.
In a message on X, Union Minister Shekhawat said, “Today the State Tourism Ministers’ Meeting 2025 was inaugurated in Udaipur, Rajasthan, bringing together Tourism Ministers and senior officials from all States and Union Territories. A collective step towards realizing the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @NarendraModiji of “One State: One Global Destination.”
He said the meeting marks a milestone in India’s tourism journey – in line with the vision of the Union Budget 2025-26 to develop globally benchmark destinations through a dual focus on destination development and destination management.
An official statement said the Udaipur meeting marked an important milestone in taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘One State: One Global Destination’ – a call to develop at least one globally benchmarked tourism destination in every state and union territory.
It said the initiative reflects the announcements in the Union Budget 2025-26, which have outlined a dual strategy for destination development and destination management as part of India’s tourism transformation agenda and the Grow India Roadmap.
The meeting focused on continuation of the ongoing stakeholder consultation, where State/UT Tourism Ministers presented their vision on the draft framework for ‘Development of 50 Destinations’ and ‘Providing Performance Linked Incentives’ with emphasis on private sector led tourism hub development and destination management through PLI-based destination maturity model.
The meeting began with the inaugural address of Tourism Secretary V. Vidyavati.
The event underlined the importance of collaborative action between the Centre, States/UTs and industry stakeholders to realize the vision of developing destinations at par with global standards.
Over the course of two days, tourism ministers and officials from various sectors will present destination concepts in line with the budget initiatives. Each State/UT will showcase a potential destination for development as a global destination and share its vision.
