Snow, rain and subsequent flooding in Afghanistan over the past three days have wreaked havoc, killing at least 33 people, TOLOnews reported.
In addition, 27 people were injured in flash floods in the country.
“Unfortunately, according to preliminary statistics, the recent floods have killed 33 people and injured 27 others. Likewise, 606 houses were partially or completely destroyed,” said Taliban spokesman Janan Saik, who is under the control of the National Disaster Management Authority. .
Saiq further stated that Farah, Herat, Zabul and Kandahar provinces suffered excessive losses.
“Most of the deaths occurred in Farah, Herat, Zabul and Kandahar provinces, with the majority of the victims coming from Kandahar province,” he said, TOLOnews reported.
Afghanistan is one of the countries most vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, avalanches, landslides and droughts.
The Ministry of National Disaster Management said that since the beginning of this solar month, more than 22,000 poor families have received and distributed domestic and foreign aid.
The ministry also warned that the number of flood casualties could increase in the coming days and that further snow and rain could lead to flooding in provinces.
