On February 14, five people arrested in connection with the kidnapping of an eight-year-old boy from Chandni Chowk area allegedly admitted to police that the boy had been killed and said the body was dumped in Ti Leia Dam.

Dinesh Shah, the father of the kidnapped boy Deepak, told police that his son was abducted by five men from the same area to extort money.

Shah, a JCB driver in Mumbai, originally planned to buy a JCB machine through a bank loan.

However, SP Arvind Kumar Singh said his neighbors thought he must have a lot of money and conspired to kidnap the boy for ransom.

The kidnappers demanded Rs 5 lakh from Shah on Thursday and threatened to kill his son if their demands were not met, Shah said.

Shah’s wife, Chameli Devi, who had previously lodged a complaint following his disappearance, learned of her son’s abduction after receiving a ransom call.

She immediately informed the Chalkusha police about the incident, he added. The police acted quickly after receiving the information and arrested five people.

However, the accused denied involvement in the kidnapping but revealed that the boy had been killed and his body thrown into the Tilea Dam.

Due to the depth of the reservoir, the boy’s body has not yet been recovered.

Police said an NDRF team from Ranchi has been sent to help recover the body. Police are conducting raids to arrest the real culprits who masterminded the kidnapping.

The SP assured the family of the deceased that the police would arrest the culprits soon and asked the protesters to disperse.

Singh said the kidnappers were not career criminals but committed the crime out of greed to extort money from Shah.
