Jaipur, 6 October (IANS) In late night development, the Rajasthan government on Monday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of eight deceased, who lost their lives in a devastating fire at the Store of Neuro ICU ward at the Truma Center of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur.
All the deceased include patients. Initial investigation suggests that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
Fire flames were provoked in storroom housing paper content, ICU equipment and blood samples tubes adjacent to the neuro ICU. At that time, 11 patients were present in the ICU, while 13 were in a nearby ward.
According to the hospital’s nodal officer and senior doctors, rescue efforts were immediately launched, but eight patients could not be saved. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families after the post -mortem.
Following the incident, the families of the victims staged a protest, demanding compensation of Rs 50 lakh and a government job for each condolences.
There was a seven -hour long conversation between relatives and top officials, including Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedam, Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa, Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph and District Collector Jitendra Soni.
Eventually, an agreement was reached, and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma later announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the families of each deceased.
“The state government stands firmly with the bereaved families,” the CM said in a late night statement on Monday.
To investigate the cause and accountability, the state government has formed a six -member committee to conduct a detailed investigation.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has already collected important evidence from the site. Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinavasar visited the Trauma Center 18 hours after the incident, inspected the area and assured that a fair and fair investigation would be done.
Earlier, Deputy CM Premchand Bairwa and Minister Jawahar Singh Bedam visited the hospital premises while interacting with the district administration and hospital officials. He reviewed the ongoing relief and rescue operations and promised continuous government support for the affected families.
