Kolkata, November 6 (IANS) A massive fire broke out in a car parts warehouse on RN Mukherjee Road, just a few hundred meters away from Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar, on Thursday morning. The officers provided this information.
Six fire engines have been pressed into service to extinguish the fire that broke out at 10.30 am. Efforts to control the fire are underway.
According to local residents, the fire broke out on the first floor of a warehouse, which is a three-storey building. Local residents saw black smoke coming out of the warehouse. They soon joined the rescue operation and brought everyone out.
He also tried to save the goods kept inside the warehouse. However, they could not vacate the warehouse on time. So far there is no information about anyone being trapped inside the warehouse.
The fire department was immediately informed. First, five fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. Later, another fire engine joined in. Due to the congested area, fire officials are facing difficulty in controlling the fire.
The fire broke out in a warehouse storing car parts, which later spread to the adjacent warehouse due to the presence of inflammable materials. Firefighters are breaking the glass of the warehouse to bring out the accumulated smoke.
Visibility around the multi-storey building has reduced due to smoke.
At present, fire officials are trying to break the glass windows of the warehouse to get the smoke out from inside the warehouse. There is no news of any casualty or injury in the incident yet. According to officials, preliminary guess is that the fire occurred due to short circuit. However, the real reason will be known after the fire is completely extinguished.
“We are trying to bring the situation under control as soon as possible,” a fire official said.
