Fire at Lahore airport disrupts Hajj flight, 7 other international departures

Flight operations at the Lahore airport in Pakistan were disrupted after the immigration system of Allama Iqbal International Airport caught fire on Thursday. According to Geo News, the fire was caused by a short circuit in the immigration counter’s ceiling.
The incident happened at nearly 5.23 am, while the fire was doused by 8 am.
A video shared on social media showed smoke on the airport premises.
The first flight scheduled to depart from Lahore was halted, while seven other international flights were also delayed due to thick smoke, even as the Civil Aviation Authority staff managed to douse the blaze.
However, the immigration process of the Hajj pilgrims was resumed from the domestic counter later.
No injuries were reported due to the fire.
An investigation into the fire incident was sought, the report said.
The report said the situation at the airport was gradually getting back to normal.
