FIR charges BS Yediyurappa for allegedly sexually assaulting 17-year-old girl

Former Karnataka chief minister and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

The Sadashivanagar police in Bengaluru have filed charges against a senior BJP leader based on a complaint lodged by the mother of a 17-year-old girl.

According to police sources, the girl was allegedly sexually assaulted on February 2 when she visited the 81-year-old leader with her mother to seek help in a fraud case.

According to news agency ANI, the FIR mentioned that the senior BJP leader allegedly sexually assaulted the girl after dragging her into the room. When she managed to run out, she told her mother about the attack.

Reacting to the case, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said: “A woman filed a complaint against our former chief minister BS Yediyurappa at Sadashivanagar police station alleging that her daughter was molested. The minister ruled out any political angle to the matter and said: “I don’t think there is a political angle to this. We don’t know the lady. She went to the police station to complain. The police did not turn her away and a case was registered.”

Mr Yediyurappa’s office refuted the accusations and accusations and released a list of past cases filed by the complainants. There are 53 different complaints on the list.

The leadership office dismissed the complaint, suggesting the teen had a habit of complaining.

BS Yediyurappa served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for 7 days in 2007. He subsequently held the state’s top job from 2008 to 2011, serving for three days in May 2018, and then from July 2019 to July 2021.
