‘Fight voter list scam’: Uddhav Thackeray to workers on BMC elections

Mumbai, Oct 27 (IANS) Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday accused the BJP of committing election fraud by inflating voter lists with fake entries and said in a democracy, voters choose the government, the government chooses its voters and decides who should vote and who should not.

In his speech at the rally scheduled for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, he told party workers, “Be alert, fight scams in the voter list, check fake voting, and remember – victory (in the BMC elections) will be ours if we remain united as Balasaheb Thackeray taught us.

He urged the party workers to check the voter list booth-by-booth. He warned, “This is not just a scam; it is theft of Maharashtra’s voice. We will expose every fake name and ensure that no fake vote steals our BMC.”

Thackeray asked the party’s ‘branch’ and ‘sub-branch heads’ to properly check the voter list to see whether those people reside in each house or not. Start this from today itself.

He said, “Check how many names are real and how many are fake. Check that. See whether there are facial voters in the voter list or not.”

He said, “On the election day, the voter list with photo should be in the hands of the polling agent. If any fake voter is found, stop him from voting. If the Election Commission is not listening, then do not let the fake voter vote. BJP people are thieves.”

He provided “tips” for vigilance, including double-checking voter ID cards and immediately reporting discrepancies to the Election Commission.

Thackeray termed the BJP as a “fake gang of self-proclaimed patriots” that prioritizes power over the people.

He declared, “They talk about Hindutva, but their Hindutva is only for their chairs. Hindus are not in danger – BJP’s chairs are in danger. Fools will not understand this.”

He positioned the Shiv Sena UBT as the true guardian of Marathi pride, and compared it to the BJP’s “imposition” tactics, including the earlier Hindi language policy controversy.

Without directly naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Thackeray launched a scathing attack claiming that the two businessmen were eyeing Mumbai and claimed that the party would foil their bid to capture Mumbai.

He said, “Whatever Aditya Thackeray has presented here today regarding the irregularities in the voter list, we have to go deep into it. This work has to be done in entire Maharashtra, but it has to start from Mumbai. Because you know who has an eye on Mumbai. Especially two businessmen have an eye on Mumbai. I know the names that are in your mind, but I am not taking them.”

“Today, someone came to Mumbai and left. Coincidentally, today I read two news items in Saamna. On the first page there was the inauguration of the BJP office, and on the second page there was a news item that an anaconda would soon come to Jijamata Park. Now that we have brought penguins, the number of tourists has increased there, and I am proud of it. But let us leave aside some people of the stature of penguins who criticize us. But anacondas are such a There is a snake which swallows everything and today he has come here and performed Bhoomi Pujan. It wants to swallow Mumbai. Do you want to swallow Mumbai? Let’s see how it will be swallowed,” he commented.
