Vancouver – Federal investigators have been posted at Vancouver International Airport after “small engine fire” in a Westjet flight from the United States.
Canada’s Transport Safety Board says it was late Saturday night as the aircraft came to the gate.
Westjet spokesperson Julia Kaiser says that the aircraft flew from Tampa, Florida, and after closing it had “small telpipe fire” in one engine.
She says that around 50 passengers were still on the board at that time and the crew used Inflatable withdrawal slides to get them for safety, saying that no one was hurt.
The airport spokesman Cloe Reynoun says that its first respondent was also on the scene and the fire was excluded by the aircraft’s onboard system.
Kaiser says that the aircraft is taken for maintenance, and Renod says that there is no effect on other flights or airport operations.
“YVR personnel, as well as emergency services, Westjet Staff and our airport partners worked to recover the passengers with their luggage and provide any other necessary support,” Reyonod said in a statement on Sunday.
