Farmers protest: Delhi traffic police, airlines issue new warning; check alternative routes

As the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest continued towards the national capital on Wednesday, traffic restrictions continued in the Delhi-NCR area.

Security has also been further enhanced at many locations in Delhi and its connecting borders. Rapid Action Force personnel along with police teams and anti-riot vehicles were deployed at the Xinhu border to ensure that law and order conditions were maintained.

Massive traffic jams were also witnessed at the Gazipur border and security was further tightened in the area on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, layers of roadblocks, concrete blocks, pickets, iron spikes and container walls have been erected at the Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur borders. Authorities poured more concrete between concrete slabs at the Tikri border in the early hours of Wednesday to prepare for the next day.

Police also blocked rural roads bordering Haryana state to prevent protesters from entering Delhi.

Transportation advisories and alternative routes

Long queues of vehicles formed across Delhi on Tuesday amid strict security checks and roadblocks at entry and exit points connecting several districts along Delhi’s borders.

Delhi Police on Tuesday issued fresh traffic warnings to ensure that any inconvenience to commuters is prevented and any unexpected incident is prevented.

Diversions around Tikri, Jharoda and Dhansa borders

  • Commuters traveling to places like Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurugram are advised to use Najafgarh-Nangloi Road from Nangloi Chowk, Najafgarh-Daurala Road from Najafgarh and Najafgarh-Chhawla Road to enter Haryana.

Commuters traveling to Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Jhajar, Gurugram

For those who plan to travel to Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Gurugram via Rohtak Road, Najafgarh-Jharoda Road, the following routes can be used:

  • From Nangloi Chowk to Nangloi-Najafgarh Raod to Phirni Road to Delhi Gate Station to Chhawla Station to Dhansa Station to Najafgarh-Dhansa Road to Jaffarpur Kalan Village to Rawta Mor to Dauralla Road-Ujwa Village to Rawta Village to Daurala Border.
  • From Nangloi Chowk to Nangloi-Najafgarh Raod to Phirni Road to Delhi Gate Stand to Chhawla Station to Najafgarh-Chawla Road to Jhatikra Mor to Jhatikra Village to Jhatikra Border.
  • From MIA Metro Station to Bakkarwala Road to Nangloi Najafgarh Road to Nangloi Station to Najafgarh Phirni Road to Delhi Gate Station to Chhawla Station to Dhansa Station to Dhansa Road to Jaffarpur Kalan Village, Rawta Mor to Dauralla Road – Ujwa Village to Rawta Village to Daurala Border .
  • From MIA Metro Station to Bakkarwala Road to Nangloi Najafgarh Road to Nangloi Station to Najafgarh Phirni Road to Delhi Gate Station to Chhawla Station to Najafgarh Chhawla Road to Jhatikra Mor to Jhatikra village and then to Jhatikra border.

Airlines issue advisory

IndiGo issued an advisory to its passengers and said, “#6ETravelAdvisory: Due to the ongoing farmers’ protest, travel time to #Delhi airport is expected to be extended. Please plan extra time accordingly.”

Vistara also issued a warning asking passengers to allow more time to get to the airport as farmers’ protests were expected to cause traffic jams.
