Bhopal, October 18 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said that farmers are the backbone of the state’s economy and their welfare is the top priority of the state government.
He said that the BJP led state government is committed to strengthening the financial condition of farmers by increasing their income through all possible means.
The Chief Minister gave this statement while addressing the Farmer Appreciation Conference organized at his residence on the occasion of payment under Bhavantar Yojana for soybean.
He said that Bhavantar Yojana protects farmers from fluctuations in market prices and is a major initiative for their welfare.
“Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhavantar Yojana is benefiting farmers by reducing the gap between the market price and the government’s Minimum Support Price (MSP),” he said.
During his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the contribution of farmers and said that the contribution of agriculture in the state’s GDP is more than 39 percent.
He said that Madhya Pradesh is among the top states in production of food grains, pulses, oilseeds, fruits and vegetables and tops in the production of orange, spices, garlic, ginger and coriander.
The state ranks second in the production of peas, onions, chillies and guavas and third in the production of floriculture and medicinal plants.
Madhya Pradesh has now earned the top position in the production of soybean, millet, spices, garlic and oranges, making it the “Food Basket of India”.
“Farmers, who are now becoming Annadata as well as energy providers, are encouraged to install solar pumps in their agricultural fields. Installation of solar pumps will free them from the recurring cost of temporary power connections,” the Chief Minister said.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Yadav announced that farmers will now get 90 percent subsidy instead of 40 percent on installation of solar energy pumps.
In addition, farmers using electric pumps will be given solar pumps of a higher capacity; A farmer with 3 HP will get a 5 HP pump, and a farmer with 5 HP will get a 7.5 HP pump.
