The Beatles Here: Fans get first look at Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghanplayed by Harris Dickinson and Joseph Quinn the Beatles.

Four Sam Mendes movies Each film will focus on a specific member of the band, with Mescal playing Paul McCartney, Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Dickinson as John Lennon and Quinn as George Harrison.

All four films are currently scheduled to be released on April 7, 2028. In a bold marketing move, Sony Studios printed four different postcards, each showcasing the main cast in character, and scattered them throughout the Liverpool Academy of Performing Arts (co-founded by McCartney) for students to find.

“We received an exclusive postcard promoting the new Beatles movie! LIPA’s official Instagram account shared on Thursday (January 29).

“We hide them around LIPA and we hope students will be able to find them.”

Initial reactions to the images were mixed, but comments on LIPA’s post revealed an outpouring of praise for McCartney Mescal: “I thought that was actually Paul,” one fan wrote. “Mezcal really suits this look! Wow.”

“Paul Mescal really captured the McCartney vibe in these first look shots,” another fan wrote on X. “Looking forward to seeing the full cast of the biopic.”

However, some continued to complain about Quinn’s casting as Harrison, with one claiming he should be “recast immediately”.

“Okay, it’s John Frusciante,” another fan joked, suggesting Quinn was dressed more like the Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist.

Others are urging Beatles fans to wait until the movie is actually released to see how each actor will portray their respective Beatles on screen.

Production has begun on the four films, which feature a core quartet made up of some of the most beloved actors of our time. This also marks the first time the Beatles have secured life and music rights to a scripted film.

Mescal will join Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, James Norton as Brian Epstein, Anna Zewai as Yoko Ono, Emmy Lou Wood as Patty Boyd, and Harry Lloyd as George R.R. Martin. Mia McKenna-Bruce Plays Maureen Starkey.

Last year, Mendes explained why he wanted to make four films, one each about the Beatles, comparing it to his BBC2 documentary about the Second World War.

“As a filmmaker, one is always looking for new ways to look at the past. To twist historical events and make them capture the light in new and different ways. My films 1917 was an attempt to do so,” he writes in the book The Times.

“The Beatles movie we’re making now also falls into that category. Here again I feel like the same door to the past has opened.”
