Bengaluru, Nov 19 (IANS) Jailed Kannada superstar Darshan on Wednesday pleaded for extra blankets in the Bengaluru trial court, saying the cold has made it difficult for him to sleep.
Darshan was produced in the CCH-57 court through video conference for the trial proceedings. He told the court that he was unable to sleep due to cold and the authorities were refusing to give him a blanket. He further said that the jail authorities are not even allowing him to give him the blanket given by his family.
Expressing displeasure, the judge questioned why the jail authorities were acting in this manner despite repeated instructions from the court. The judge further asked how the authorities could refuse to provide blankets in cold weather and directed them to immediately provide blankets to Darshan.
The court, which initiated the trial, considered the prosecution’s plea under CrPC 264 to mark undisputed documentary evidence. Darshan’s lawyer objected to the petition, after which the hearing of the case was adjourned till December 3.
At this point, Nagaraj, another accused in the case, informed the court that despite the cold weather, blankets were not being provided to the prisoners in their cells. Darshan supports this statement saying that the cold has made it impossible for him to sleep.
The gruesome murder of Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan, took place in Bengaluru on June 8, 2024. Renukaswamy was kidnapped from his home town, Chitradurga, brought to Bengaluru, kept in a shed and tortured to death. After the murder his body was thrown into the canal. The incident came to light when security personnel at a private apartment building spotted the body being dragged by a pack of dogs.
The 3,991-page charge sheet submitted by the Bengaluru Police in the court in connection with the case involving Darshan and his partner Pavitra Gowda has revealed that the victim Renukaswamy had asked Pavitra Gowda to be in a secret live-in relationship with him.
Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and 15 others were arrested on June 11 from Chitradurga for the kidnapping and brutal murder of Renukaswamy. Darshan was shifted to Ballari jail after pictures of him being treated ‘royally’ in Bengaluru Central Jail surfaced. He is facing three FIRs in this connection.
The Supreme Court had canceled the bail of Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and others. He is currently lodged in Bengaluru Central Jail.
The prosecution had filed a petition under CrPC 264 in the Bengaluru trial court to mark the evidence in connection with the sensational fan-murder case involving Kannada superstar Darshan, his partner Pavitra Gowda and others as not disputed. The petition has been filed to expedite the trial process.
This is an important stage of the proceedings, after which the questioning of witnesses will begin. After marking the evidence, the phase of witness examination in the fan-murder case will begin.
