The Fan Expo is back to its 30th year, as the front street fills with a lot of cosplayers in lights, lightsbars, superheroes and action.
30 years ago, it was launched as a small comic book convention with around 1500 fans, now the third largest pop culture event in North America, which is pulling into a crowd around the world.
“We will see that more than 130,000 people will come through the doors,” Andrew Moys said, Vice Preventive of Fan Expo. “It used to be a little more niche, but now everyone likes to celebrate the fandum. Therefore, there is really something for everyone,”
Every corner of Fandam Universe comes in Toronto.
From comics to science-fis to superheroes, anime, gaming and cosplayers that bring it to life.
“This is one of the safest places for me, honestly. You can actually be yourself and not completely decide,” one of the people present.
Various types of performances are visible in this year’s lineup. Michael J. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the film, incorporating the future reunion with Fox and Christopher Lloyd.
The conference also has some of the largest brands and franchisees of Disney, Lego, The Simpassons and Star Wars.
Local businesses are also found in action.
Oscar Yazidzian, the owner of Major Comics in Montreal, has been a seller at the Fan Expo since 1998. He says that Fan Expo is one of the most profitable times of the year.
“You have to live here. If you have a business, if you are in the industry, you are hobby, you have to stay here,” said Yazidjian. “You can buy collections, you can meet new friends, contacts and accessories from this way. This is a great phenomenon,”
Moy says that the conference also promotes the local economy.
He said, “We are filling restaurants around the front street. We have a lot of hotel partners selling hotel rooms. And of course, we are great partners with the Metro Toronto Convention Center,” he said.
The Fan Expo Metro runs from 21 August to 24 August at the Toronto Convention Center.
