Jaipur, October 18 (IANS) In a major operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) has seized fake notes worth Rs 43 lakh from Narayan Vihar area of Jaipur.

ADG, SOG, VK Singh said that acting on intelligence developed over 15 days, SOG raided a flat on Friday evening and arrested two suspects with fake Rs 500 notes.

ADG SOG VK Singh said that such crimes generally increase during festivals, due to which surveillance has been increased.

On receiving specific input, the SOG team along with Narayan Vihar Police conducted a raid and recovered fake notes.

The case is now being investigated by the South District Police.

The recovered items included Rs 26 lakh worth of fake notes and Rs 17 lakh worth of fake notes in uncut printed sheets, indicating that some of the fake notes were still in the process of being produced.

Officials suspect that these sheets were brought from another state and were meant to be distributed across Rajasthan and possibly beyond.

Officials were concerned about the level of adulteration in the fake currency. For the first time, security features like watermarks and embossing – which are usually found in genuine Rs 500 notes – were detected in fake notes. This suggests that the operation was highly organized, probably involving advanced printing techniques.

During interrogation, the arrested suspects revealed that the fake notes were being sold in the ratio of 4:1 – fake notes worth Rs 4 lakh were being sold for genuine notes worth just Rs 1 lakh.

ALSO READ  Congress declared Naveen Yadav as its candidate for Jubilee Hills by-election.

It is said that the main link of this operation is a criminal from Bikaner, who was distributing fake notes.

Based on this information, police teams have launched raids at several places to nab other members of the racket.

Authorities continue to investigate the reach of the network and the origin of the counterfeit currency.

This operation marks a significant success in curbing the circulation of fake money during the festive season.
