Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said on Thursday that the fairs not only help in preserving folk art and culture, but also strengthens the rural economy by reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the state.
Governor was speaking while presiding over the closing ceremony of the three-day district-level sire fair held at Jukhala in Bilaspur district.
He said that such fairs are a powerful medium to tie the younger generation to their roots and promote harmony and community in the society.
Appreciating the cultural performances offered by women groups, she said, “If they are regularly encouraged, they can present attractive and high quality cultural programs at minimum cost. It will give new life to rural culture and help preserve traditions.”
The governor said that the ‘Sire Fair’ provides people from nearby villages an opportunity to participate in large numbers and shop.
Display of local products, handicrafts and traditional foods also serves as a platform for income for villagers.
He directed the district administration to set up agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and stalls of banking sectors so that the villagers can get information about banking facilities as well as state and central government schemes.
Referring to the contribution of the Indian Armed Forces, the Governor said that he has always played an important role in maintaining the dignity of the nation.
He referred to Operation Sindoor, which demonstrated India’s strength and commitment to carry out terrorism with Indian soil.
The Governor said that instead of criticizing, someone should join creative politics, so that meaningful suggestions can direct developmental initiatives.
He honestly encouraged the officials to fulfill their duties and said that since the officials and officials play an important role in implementing the policies of the government, they should be respected.
The governor honored the participants of various sports and cultural activities organized during the fair.
Earlier, he also visited the exhibitions established by various departments.
