Chinese Police detained the director of a steel plant in the Inner Mongolia region after an explosion on Sunday killed two people and hospitalized 84 others. Eight others are still missing.
Baotou city officials said on Monday that a pressurized storage tank used to store steam and high-temperature water exploded at the factory.
At around 3 pm local time on Sunday, an explosion occurred at the Baotou Steel United Steel Plant in Baotou City, causing tremors in the surrounding area. A representative from the Baotou City Information Office told a news conference on Monday morning that rescue teams were searching for the missing eight people.
Baogang United Steel Co. is a large state-owned enterprise, according to state media.
