George Russell, who qualified P4:

“P2 and P4 are good positions for us to start tomorrow. Our pace was strong throughout sprint qualifying and the balance of the car felt good.

“This is exciting for us, given how close the race is for P2 in the Constructors’ Championship. Hopefully we can carry that pace and momentum into the rest of the weekend. The weather forecast for tomorrow suggests there may be rain headed our way.

“Even if that is the case, I am confident that we will have the car to fight off our rivals and score important points in the sprint. From there, it is on to qualifying where we will aim for the same kind of performance as we put together today.”

Carlos Sainz after qualifying dead-last:

“We didn’t do good sprint qualifying today. My first race was a mess in terms of traffic and tire temperature, but in the second race we made life more difficult for ourselves and lost almost two laps.

“Ultimately, I end this session without knowing the limits or performance of the car, so it’s not ideal. Watching FP1, I know there was a lot more to it, so we’ll learn from today and hopefully execute a better session tomorrow.”

“I just can’t turn the car but at the same time, I can’t really trust the rear. For us, I would say quite poor. But it is what it is.”

“We have to take the wind into account, so tomorrow we will expect quite different conditions than today. Also [tyre] It will be a bit uncertain to wear but we will try to be prepared for anything and hopefully we can have a good race.”
