New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and his visiting Cyprus counterpart Constantinos Kombos reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029 during their meeting in New Delhi on Thursday.
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said he and Kombos discussed the global geopolitical situation, developments in related areas and cooperation in multilateral fora.
“It is a pleasure to welcome FM Constantinos Kombos of Cyprus in New Delhi today. We reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029, which was agreed upon by the leaders during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Cyprus in June 2025. Our discussions also covered the global geopolitical situation, developments in our respective regions and our cooperation in multilateral fora. As Cyprus 2026 As he takes over the Presidency of the European Union, we are confident that India-EU relations will further strengthen,” External Affairs Minister Jaishankar posted on Twitter.
The Action Plan constitutes a roadmap for the implementation of the Joint Declaration adopted during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Cyprus earlier this year, setting out short, medium and long-term goals in key areas of cooperation, including, inter alia, defence, trade and business, innovation and technology sectors.
Thanking India for the warm welcome and hospitality, Kombos said he was “pleased and honoured” to meet Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar during his first official visit to India.
“My visit to India on the heels of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Cyprus is a strong indication of the level of Cyprus-India relations,” he posted on Twitter.
The visiting Foreign Minister highlighted that the discussions focused on further steps in the Cyprus-India Strategic Partnership, including the implementation of the Joint Action Plan agreed by the two countries.
EU-India relations, priorities of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council and regional developments including Ukraine and the Middle East were also discussed.
“I also reiterated my appreciation for India’s long-standing principled support for the Cyprus issue and upholding international law,” Kombos said.
In his opening remarks during the meeting with Kombos, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar expressed India’s support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Cyprus and for a bi-territorial, bi-communal federation with political equality, in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
“Your visit comes at a time when Cyprus is preparing to take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 January 2026. Strengthening relations with both Cyprus and the EU is a key priority for India, and we certainly value your steadfast support in that regard. India and Cyprus are trusted friends and reliable partners. Trust and time-tested are not easy adjectives to use nowadays, but certainly I feel very confident about that. And can do so with assurance.
He said, “Our relations have evolved into a comprehensive partnership based on mutual respect, shared democratic values and a joint strategic vision. It is forward-looking and is in line with the interests and aspirations of both countries. We also cooperate closely in regional and multilateral fora, including the United Nations, EU and Commonwealth frameworks.”
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar also appreciated Cyprus’ support to India on cross-border terrorism.
“We deeply appreciate Cyprus’ continued support on issues of core interest to India, especially in our fight against cross-border terrorism. I would like to once again thank your Government for the strong condemnation following the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the solidarity expressed with India in our fight against terrorism. We also appreciate your continued support for India’s permanent membership of the expanded UN Security Council and membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.”
Constantinos Kombos arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit to India.
