Eve launched statewide raids in Chhattisgarh Excise Scam Case

Raipur, September 21 (IANS) In a major crack on the alleged productive scam, Chhattisgarh’s Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) on Sunday launched a series of coordinated raids across the state, targeted liquor and coal dealers and suspected of being involved in financial irregularities.

According to official sources, EOW started raids of surprise at 10 different places spread in Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur districts.

Operation is part of the ongoing investigation into a multi-gruesome product scam that has shaken the regulatory and commercial circles of the state.

One of the major goals of the raid is a major liquor dealer located in Raipur. EOW officials were seen entering their residence with seal documents and forensic teams, indicating the severity of the investigation.

Sources suggest that the business behavior of the suspect is investigating for the alleged tax evasion and manipulation of excise records.

In Raipur alone, three to four places are being discovered simultaneously, with teams deployed to check financial documents, transactions and digital evidence.

Similar operations are going on in Durg and Bilaspur, where coal dealers are also being investigated for suspected links of scam. The excise scam, which is allegedly involved on sales basis to avoid liquor distribution license and to avoid taxes, has indicated widespread concern over regulatory inspections in the state.

EOW’s action is being seen as a decisive step towards highlighting the nexus between business operators and officials who have facilitated irregularities.

Officials have harassed the findings so far, stating that the investigation is in its early stages and further details will be shared after the preliminary assessment is completed.
