EU fines Apple about $539 million for violating competition law: report

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The European Union will fine Apple about 500 million euros ($539 million) for alleged violations of EU competition law, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing unnamed sources.

The Financial Times said the fine is expected to be announced early next month.

The European Commission, which last year accused Apple of distorting competition in the music streaming market through App Store rules that prevent developers from informing users of alternative purchasing options, declined to comment on the Financial Times report.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside office hours.
