‘Ensure no eligible voter is left out during SIR’: Tamil Nadu CM Stalin tells party workers

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday (November 9) called on his partymen to ensure that no eligible voter is left out during the ongoing SIR in the state.

His interaction with the public revealed that the awareness on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls among the people was inadequate.

Stalin, as DMK president, said, “At many places, people said that even polling officials like booth level officers (BLOs) did not understand it.”

During a virtual interaction with district secretaries of the ruling party from the DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam here, Stalin directed party functionaries and constituency in-charges to remain vigilant in SIR-related work.

The DMK, which had questioned the timing of SIR, especially its implementation during the current northeast monsoon period in the state, is opposing it, claiming that the large-scale exercise could result in alienating voters from the minority community.

“Not a single eligible voter’s name should be left out in the SIR drive. Similarly, ensure that names of ineligible voters do not figure in the list,” he said while chairing a video conference meeting to discuss the month-long revision drive.

According to a party source, the President has instructed DMK’s booth level agents to remain alert. He also asked whether forms are being distributed to people after giving proper information about SIR.
