Social media shocked by empty stands at PSL final© X (formerly Twitter)
There has been much criticism over low attendances during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 and it was much the same during Monday’s final between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United in Karachi. Some users posted photos on social media of Karachi’s National Stadium, showing mostly empty stands. Users were not too happy with the lack of attendance, with some even comparing the tournament to the Indian Women’s Premier League (WPL) attendance. The WPL final was attended by over 29,000 people.

Even during the playoffs, the absence was criticized by many pundits. Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram said he was “embarrassed” to see the playoffs in Karachi without fans.

“It was really embarrassing to see no spectators in Karachi. No spectators, last night’s match was virtually without spectators,” Akram said when asked about the empty stands at the stadium.
Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans by two wickets to win the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 title. Martin Guptill scored 50 and was the top scorer while Imad Wasim finished the match brilliantly.
Batting first, Usman Khan scored a half-century and Iftikhar Ahmed played well in the closing stages as Multan Sultans 159 runs were scored in 20 overs with 9 wickets missing. Imad Wasim, picked by the Islamabad United bowlers, took five wickets while captain Shadab Khan ended up taking three.
