Em Jaishankar says, talks between PM Modi, Lauranco, president of Angolan, will promote India-Africa relations

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met on Saturday with Angan’s President Joao Manual Gonclaves Lauranco during his state visit to India.

Eam Jaishankar further said that the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President is expected to strengthen cooperation between India and Angola, but also promoted India-Africa relations.

Sharing a post on the X, Jaishankar wrote, “During his state visit to India, Angola President Joao Manuel Gonclaves Laureranko was honored for calling.

The post said, “It is believed that his conversation with PM @narendramodi will chart a new way of development for Indo-Angola and Indo-Africa relations later today,” the post said.

Loarenko, in the first day, a formal reception was given in the forecourse of Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Em Jaishankar and others were also present.

In a post on X, Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal wrote, “A special reception for a global South partner. Mr. Joao Manuel Gonclaves Lauranco, president of Angola, was given 21 gun salute and guard of honor as he arrived in the Fourcort of Rashastrapati Bhavan.

Lauranko paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Rajghat by garlanding the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. The president of the Angoll signed the book of visitors after laying a wreath, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial.

In another post, Jaiswal wrote, “Recalling Bapu and his ideals. Angola of President Shri Joao Manuel Gonclaves Lauranko honored Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.”

A day earlier, Lauranco arrived in New Delhi on a state trip with a high-level delegation. He was given a special welcome at the airport by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh.

Several MoUs are expected to be signed in the fields of traditional medical, agriculture and cultural cooperation during the visit to Lauranco.

In October 2015, Angola Vice President, Manual Visent visited India to attend the third Indo-Africa Summit, during which he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During his visit to Johannesburg to attend the BRICS Summit, Anganno, President of Angann, met PM Modi on 26 July 2018.

India established formal diplomatic relations with Angola in 1985. Since then, it has maintained strong relations with the country. This year is the 40th anniversary of these relations.

Angola is the President of the African Union for the year 2025. Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Ttete Antonio, Foreign Minister of Angan, met in Kampala on 18 January 2024 on the occasion of the NAM minister’s meeting. (AI)
