Paris (AP) – French prosecutors have initiated a police investigation into alleged data tampering and fraud, including X, Elon Musk’s social media platforms.
In a statement on Friday, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced the inauguration of the investigation, and said that a branch of the French gendermari was investigating.
The statement stated that the investigation “especially” is looking into two alleged crimes – a tampering of the functioning of an automated data processing system, and arranging the extraction of data fraud from an automated data processing system.
This did not give details of the alleged wrongdoing. It states that the investigation is targeting both the platform and the people, without nominating them or saying what they can have.
The prosecutor’s office said that it was working on the information that two people were provided to their cybercrime unit in January. One of them is a Member of Parliament, and the other is a senior officer at the French government institution. This did not identify him or the institution.
It said that two people accused the ex -use of the X algorithm for “objectives of foreign intervention”. This did not expand alleged intervention or allegedly used algorithm.
The office of the prosecutor said that it decided to open the police investigation this week, after conducting his own “verification” and getting additional information from French researchers and “various public institutions”.
The Associated Press has emailed X’s press office demanding comments.
