Elliot Anderson has dismissed suggestions that he has booked himself a place in the England midfield for next summer’s World Cup.
nottingham forest The midfielder has enjoyed a promising start to his senior international career, having been in Thomas Tuchel’s starting eleven for the last three matches.
The latest of those came in Thursday’s 3-0 friendly win waleswhere he gave another masterful performance wembley Bend.
He appears to have made the number six position his own, but he is not getting excited ahead of the anticipated fourth clash in Latvia on Tuesday.
“I’ve got to keep going,” he said. “It’s only three games, so I’ve got a lot more to do than that.
“I’m just focusing on what I can bring to the team and really trying to help the team.
“Team spirit has been very important. This is a top team and top players too.”
“They have really helped me and made me feel at home from day one. It helps a lot to bring out the goodness in the players.”
Anderson has adjusted well Declan RiceWho is playing the more advanced number eight role.
He added, “I feel like I’m building a good relationship with Dec there. I’m doing it more, which is good, and getting to know him. Hopefully we can keep that going.
“He’s very good in the number eight role. You see it, he’s really good. He gets goals and assists too, which helps when he’s playing up top.
“He’s a top player to play with.”
The feeling is mutual for Rice, who is thriving with Anderson’s practicality behind him.
The Arsenal midfielder said of his teammate: “He has taken it seriously and he is playing exactly the way he plays for his club.
“When you have a guy who is so confident and comes in and feels he doesn’t need to do anything different, he goes out on the pitch and everything is like on autopilot, the way he plays.
“We’ve built a really strong bond in midfield. We’ve got a close relationship there. We’re playing well together, he’s letting me get forward a bit more. We’re forming a nice little partnership.”
“The manager has really liked us the last three games and he’s stuck with that. We’ve just got to keep it going.”
“Obviously the World Cup is in the summer, there’s still a lot of time left, but the more we can play, keep the momentum going, that will be really important.”
