Election Commissioner Arun Goel resigns weeks before Lok Sabha polls

In a shocking move, the President has accepted the resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel just weeks before the Lok Sabha polls. There has been a vacancy in the Election Commission of India and now only Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar remains.

Earlier on Saturday, sources told New Delhi TV that the date for the Lok Sabha elections could be announced next week, with Goel’s resignation now putting a question mark on that timeline.
