Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday told the court that he wants to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the GST policy case, but the budget session, including floor tests, is underway .

“Main court aana chahta tha lekin ye ekdum se floor test aa gaya. Hamala budget session first week of March tak chalega, aap uske baad case laga le. Main court ho jaaunga (I wanted to appear in court but this floor test It came suddenly. Our budget session is not until the first week of March. You can give me a date after that and I will appear in court),” said Kejriwal, who was present in court. Meeting Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Divya Malhotra through video conferencing.

The court accepted the plea filed by the Delhi Chief Minister and fixed the matter for further hearing on March 16.

Ramesh Gupta, senior counsel appearing for Kejriwal, argued that his presence in court would create difficulties for everyone. “Besides, there is a budget session going on in Parliament and there are floor tests. But he will appear in person,” Gupta argued.

On February 7, the court issued a summons to Kejriwal, requiring him to appear in court on February 17 after he refused a series of summons from the Enforcement Directorate.

In its plea, the ED said Kejriwal was a senior public servant and should therefore abide by the law. The agency further said that if someone holding such a senior official position does not abide by the law, it will set a wrong example for the common man.

In its complaint, the ED said Kejriwal did not appear before the summons but instead raised frivolous objections and deliberately created reasons to make it clear that the chief minister deliberately did not want to comply with the summons.
