Eilish McCorgan Set a new European 10km record Valencia On Sunday, he regained the top spot a week after losing to Belgium’s Jana Van Lent.
McColgan finished eighth in the 10km Valencia Ibercaja race in 30:08, setting new British and European records on the notoriously fast track.
On January 4, Van Lent ran a time of 30 minutes and 09 seconds in Nice, breaking the European record of 30 minutes and 19 seconds set by McCogan at the 2022 Greater Manchester Race. He lost the first place, but this record did not last long.
McColgan has endured a difficult and injury-plagued stretch over the past three seasons, but the 35-year-old now appears to be back to his best.
She said: “This is my first time in Valencia and I heard incredible things about the game. I’m very happy about today.
“The last three years have been tough. Last year I sprinted to the London Marathon. But I want to work on improving my speed this winter before the next marathon.
“It was one of the races on my bucket list so I don’t know how I got to this age and not done it. I would like to go back to Valencia one day and do a half and maybe even a marathon.”
Kenya’s Brenda Jepchirchir won the women’s category in 29 minutes and 25 seconds, and 10-kilometer world record holder Agnes Ngetich chose to compete in the World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee.
In the men’s race, Sweden’s Andreas Almgren broke his previous European record and won the championship with a time of 26 minutes and 43 seconds, 9 seconds ahead.
Joe Wigfield equaled Rory Leonard’s British record of 27:38, which was narrowly beaten by compatriots Alfie Manthrope (27:40) and Scott Beattie (27:41) at the end of the race.
