Sharma appeared at the ED headquarters in Delhi at around 11:30 am on Tuesday, December 2. He did not talk to the media upon arrival.
His questioning comes days after the agency questioned several prominent personalities, including actresses Mimi Chakraborty and Urvashi Rautela and actor Sonu Sood, in the same case. Cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina have also been questioned in recent weeks.
Sources told Local18 that the ED is investigating whether any of these celebrities received payments or promotional benefits from entities linked to 1xBet. Investigators are also probing whether they were contacted by individuals accused of running or facilitating betting networks.
The agency believes that the betting platform was used to launder large amounts of illegally acquired money. According to investigation inputs received by the ED, around 220 million Indians use online betting apps, with a significant portion of transactions reportedly taking place through illicit channels which may involve crores of rupees in suspected laundering.
Officials said more well-known actors and public figures could be called as the investigation progresses and additional financial leads emerge.
