Kolkata, Oct 29 (IANS) Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Wednesday raided the house of a businessman in Kolkata’s Taratala area and recovered Rs 1 crore and jewellery.
Sources in the Central Investigation Agency said that the raid was conducted as part of the investigation into the municipality recruitment corruption case.
Search is going on at the businessman’s residence. Apart from this, searches are also being conducted in Baguihati area of North Kolkata.
In the morning, officials of the Central Investigation Agency raided the house of the businessman, who is believed to be related to the recruitment corruption case.
ED sources said that till now Rs 1,20,00,000 has been recovered from there.
The counting of money is still going on. Investigators are trying to find out how such a huge amount of cash came to the businessman’s house and whether there is any connection between that money and the recruitment corruption case. Apart from this, another ED team had also gone to Baguihati to conduct raids in a similar case.
According to sources, ED has recently received information about several companies involved in the municipality recruitment corruption case. Based on that information, they raided many places including Beliaghata on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, officials of the investigating agency raided the house of a business family located at 75 Hemchandra Naskar Road in Beliaghata area of the city. About six ED officers conducted the raid.
According to ED sources, this house belongs to two prominent businessman brothers – Biswajit Choudhary and Ranjit Choudhary. He is believed to be a textile merchant and has other businesses as well. Elder brother Vishwajeet Chaudhary has a clothes business. On the other hand, Ranjit Chaudhary is associated with the construction business.
Recently, based on information in the recruitment case, ED had raided the office of State Fire Minister Sujit Bose and his son’s restaurant. The investigating agency also called an officer of South Dum Dum Municipality for questioning.
