The Election Commission of India (ECI) has started preparations for the election in the office of the vice -president of India after the resignation of the people of India.
According to an official press note by the ECI, the schedule for the vice -presidential election will be announced, which will be done immediately after the completion of the initial formalities.
According to the ECI, the preparations for the Electoral College, including the nominees of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, finalize the returning officer and the assistant returning officers, and the preparation and spread of background content on all previous Vice-Presidential elections has already begun.
The official press note wrote, “MHA has dated its gazette notification So3354 (E) on July 22, 2025, informed the resignation of Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar, Deputy Chairman of India. The Election Commission of India, the Vice President of India and the office of the President is mandatory to conduct the election for the office of the President and the President. Rules, ie the President and the Vice President Election Rules, 1974.”
“Accordingly, the Election Commission of India has already started preparations related to the Vice-Presidential elections, 2025. On the completion of the initial activities, the announcement of the election schedule of the Vice President of India will follow the election schedule as soon as possible,” said this.
The press note further read, “The major pre-prostitution activities that have already been started: (i) Election College preparations including elected as well as the nominated members of the Rajya Sabha as well as Lok Sabha; (ii) Returning Officer/ Assistant Returning Officer (S) and (III) Preparation and Background materials preparation and spread.
The chairman of the Vice President of India was evacuated after the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the post. The post has been vacated about two years before the scheduled end of Dhankhar’s tenure.
Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening “to prioritize health care and follow medical advice”.
“To prioritize health care and follow medical advice, I resigned as the vice -president of India, immediately effective according to Article 67 (A) of the Constitution,” Dhankhar said in his letter.
He said, “I expand my deepest gratitude to His Majesty – the honorable President of India for his unwavering support and great, amazing work -working relationship for the amazing work that maintains during his tenure,” he said.
Dhankhar also expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ministers to the council.
“The Prime Minister’s cooperation and support has been invaluable, and I have learned a lot during my time,” he said. (AI)
