eastenders Delivery set up Dramatic New Year’s Day specialfeaturing flash-forward episodes that see long-running characters Max Branning Walking down the aisle for the fifth time.
Actor Jack Wood, who plays Branning, described the one-off as “brave, big and bold”.
BBC1’s 30-minute broadcast takes viewers a full year into the future, placing Branning at the center of multiple unfolding scenes on his wedding day.
Wood, 53, described the iconoclastic special as “brave and great” [and] Bold”.
“It’s such an honor to be a part of this,” he said.
“I think New Year’s is going to be a busy time for the Branning family. Max is trying to reconnect with his kids and isn’t doing very well.
“I think he was probably at an all-time low on New Year’s Eve. And then we go into fast forward.”

He called the two episodes “a stark contrast” and said: “We see a guy at maybe the lowest point we’ve ever seen, and then we flash forward and things might not be that bad after all.”
eastenders “For Max, life is one big game of kiss, marry, kill,” said executive producer Ben Waddy.
“This idea gives us something that we’re really excited about.”
“It was chaos.”
Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Lauren Branning, says the new year will be “very interesting” for her on-screen family.
“We had a christening for little Jimmy,” the 33-year-old actor said of her character Lauren’s young son.
“You can imagine how it went, but it was very, very interesting. We were probably seeing people meet for the first time.
“It’s very dramatic, but it’s such a great TV show.”
EastEnders previously showed a flash-forward scene in February 2023, depicting an aspect of the Christmas 2023 storyline.

Wood’s character Max first arrived in Walford in June 2006, bringing with him his then-wife Tanya and their daughters Lauren and Abbie.
He left the BBC soap in 2021 after his character’s romance with Linda Carter ended, returning earlier this year.
