Geneva:
The United Nations said on Monday that last month Myanmar displaced thousands of people to Myanmar and left a struggle-hit country in immediate need to remove debris.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) said in a statement, “At least two and a half million tonnes of debris – about 125,000 truck load – should be removed in Myanmar.”
The agency stated that two weeks from the 7.7-Chance Earthquake, killing more than 3,600, was destroyed by Mandalay’s central cities and teak lies, while more than 60,000 people are crowded in temporary displacement sites.
They are “very frightened to return to their homes. Transport connectivity is impaired and water supply is not working”, Representative Representative of UNDP warned Titan Mitra in the country in the statement.
According to the UNDP analysis, some 1.6 million buildings were located in the areas that are exposed to the biggest intensity of the earthquake.
“Many of the exposed buildings were not designed to face such powerful seismic activity,” the agency said.
It said that more than 10,000 houses and public service buildings have been quite damaged or destroyed.
At the same time, 128 health facilities were “brought into contact with severe or violent shaking, resulting in high probability of significant damage or destruction”, it said.
“With low health facilities to serve the affected population, anxiety is increasing about the ability to provide important medical care after concerns.”
Mitra stated that UNDP analysis, which integrated advanced satellite data with a series of other data points, presented “a very related picture”.
“It is important that we verify this scene on this view rapidly,” he said.
