According to the United Nations Office for coordination of human affairs (UNOCHA), Afghanistan is highly unsafe for natural disasters including seasonal floods, landslides and earthquakes.

These frequent earthquakes in Afghanistan cause damage to weak communities, who have already been struggling for decades of struggle and low development and have left them with a little flexibility to deal with many shocks together, Anoka noted.

According to the Red Cross, Afghanistan has a history of a powerful earthquake, and the Hindu Kush mountain range is a geologically active area, where there are quakes every year.

Afghanistan sits on several mistake lines between Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, in which a mistake line also runs directly through Herat. Its location on several active mistake lines with a collision area between Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates makes it seismically active area. These plates are found and collides, causing frequent seismic activity. (AI)
