Department for work and pension (WPP) Following errors with its state pension, Britain has paid about 900 million pounds.

Multiple errors in state pension Payments have been made in recent years and in some cases affected people died before they could be kept right.

Errors can be decided even after someone dies, which is with money due to going to the heirs.

However, there is a concern that some state pension records can be removed, which has been “virtually impossible” to fix the previous errors in payment, raised by a former minister.

Sir Steve webA former Liberal Democrat Pension Minister said that he has written to the permanent secretary in the Department of Task and Pension (DWP), Sir Peter Shoffield, asked him to ensure that to maintain records, he may need to overcome any outstanding state pension errors.

The data on the data deletion is placed under the review of the status of DWP and no decision has been taken to return the business as a normal process.

A DWP spokesperson said: “We are committed to pensioners to ensure that they are entitled to financial assistance, which they are entitled to and have so far reviewed over 900,000 customer records, with a total prize of over £ 900 million in total.

“Where errors occur, we are committed to solving them, which is why we have stopped the removal of state pension records.”

Freedom of information received by Sir Steve (FOI) response, who requested information from DWP, stated that in 2021 the department had a temporary stagnation on the deletion, in which married women, widows and the 80s in the 80s as part of the major correction exercise on the underpaid pension.

Sir Steve said that since pension records are generally removed four years after someone dies, there is a risk that can eventually be eradicated all the way to return in 2017, making it difficult for families to get justice.

“Once the ambargo is lifted, we will focus on removing the records that are no longer necessary and reappear the retention policy.”

Sir Steve, who is now a partner in Consultants LCP (Lane Clarke & Peacock), said,, with about 500,000 people at the age of state pension each year, the decision to remove the data for deaths in 2017 to 2020, which was originally maintained, but can lead to probably as two million records.

He said that some of these would include women who missed the “Home Response Limit Protection” – a plan to help parents and care to protect state pension – whose family could be unable to correct the situation.

Sir Steve indicated the DWP figures released earlier that it shows that out of the estimated 194,000 people affected by the errors related to the security of home responsibilities, 43,000 deaths never benefited from safety.

Those who were dead were the estimated £ 127 million.

Sir Steve urged those who believe that there may be errors to check their records.

He said: “I often hear from people who are trying to solve errors in the state pension of loved ones which are no longer with us, but it is said that nothing can be done because the records are destroyed.

“As long as we cannot withdraw records that have already been removed, it is necessary that DWP no longer removes millions of records, especially given the live process of trying to fix errors around the security of home responsibilities.

“At least we can do for those who were never paid the right pension, to ensure that at least their families can get the money that miss them.”
