DVC ruined Vijayadashami mood by unilateral release water: CM Banerjee

Kolkata, 3 October (IANS) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday accused the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of spoiling the mood of the festive mood in the state on the occasion of Vijayadashami on Thursday, which was issuing huge amount of water from its dams without pre -intimacy to the West Bengal government.

Chief Minister Banerjee said that the opportunity of Vijayadashami is close to Durga Puja, which was a time of happiness, cheering and fresh hope.

Nevertheless, he claimed, instead of allowing the people of West Bengal to conclude the festival in peace, DVC officials issued 65,000 cusecs of water without any prior notice.

The Chief Minister said in a social media post on Friday afternoon, “This careless work is nothing short of an attempt to incite sorrow during our sacred festival.”

According to him, such unilateral action by DVC was embarrassing and absolutely unacceptable.

The Chief Minister said in his social media post, “By issuing water without information, DVC has kept millions of people in immediate crisis in Bengal. It is not a natural disaster; it is a disaster manufactured by DVC.”

She indirectly described DVC’s action as an attempt at Bisarjan (immersion) in West Bengal, and also warned that she would never allow this to happen.

The Chief Minister said, “Let me be clear: I will not allow anyone to execute a Bisarjan of Bengal. Every conspiracy against our people will be opposed with full force. The truth will be strong on the fraud and will win a good victory over evil,” the Chief Minister said.

Even in the past, the Chief Minister was also vocal against the DVC on the issue of issuing huge amounts of water from his dams without giving prior notice to the state government.

Last year, Chief Minister Banerjee also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was demanding subsequent intervention that the DVC did not go to the state government to release water from its dams without prior notice.

However, DVA always denied claims. According to this, water is always released from DVC dams based on a discussion in the Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee (DVRRC), where there is always a representative in the West Bengal government, and hence the state government was accused of release of water without pre -interimity.
