DUSU Pol: Counting is being done, ABVP ahead in major posts

New Delhi, 19 September (IANS) Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) is going on in the multipurpose hall at the University Sports Stadium on the North Complex for 2025.

After the first round of counting, ABVP DUSU presidential candidate Aryan Mann is ahead with 1,196 votes. ABVP candidates for the post of DUSU Secretary, Kunal Chaudhary are leading with 1,410 votes, and its joint secretary candidate Deepika Jha is ahead with 1,315 votes.

However, NSUI DUSU vice -president is a presidential candidate, Rahul Jhansala, leading with 1,606 votes.

The counting of votes started at 8 am, and the result is expected to be later in the day.

More than 600 police personnel, including 160 officers, have been deployed, and CCTV monitoring to ensure a smooth and safe voting process.

The DUSU election was held in two phases on Thursday, with 39.45 percent voter voting. Polling was held in 52 centers and 195 booths.

A total of 21 candidates are contesting for four major posts in the student union: Chairman, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary.

In particular, nine candidates are dying for the presidency alone, while 12 other are in the race for the remaining positions.

The National Self -Service Association (RSS) -Affilized Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Congress -backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) have been closed in direct competition, in which the Left Alliance (AISA -SFI) also plays an important role.

Aryan Mann from ABVP, Josalin Nandita Chaudhary from NSUI, and Anjali Dusu from SFI-AISA alliance are in the fray for the President’s post. The pole campaign focuses on affordable travel, fee increase and better facilities for students.

Allegations of violence and misconduct participated in the elections.

ABVP, RSS student wing, accused DUSU president and NSUI leader Raunak Khatri of joining a scuffle in the North Complex.

State Secretary of ABVP Delhi Sarathak Sharma alleged that Khatri’s supporters surrounded a female student outside Kirori Mal College, causing injury to her. Both ABVP and NSUI have claimed that they will win.

In particular, the Delhi High Court has imposed strict ban on any winning rallies by the winning candidates. The court has directed the Delhi Police, university officials and local administration to ensure strict measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
