Chandigarh, Oct 31 (IANS) The ED seized incriminating documents and property records during search operations in several cities in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab in an interstate drug trafficking case linked to money laundering. An official gave this information on Friday.
ED, Chandigarh Zonal Office conducted a search operation on October 29 under PMLA, 2002 in a money laundering case involving Gopal Lal Anjana, Chhinderpal Singh alias Kewal, Yadvinder Singh and others.
During the search operation, the ED also identified two high-value residential properties belonging to the three accused, as well as several parcels of agricultural land, which are suspected to have been acquired from the proceeds of crime.
The ED initiated the investigation based on an FIR lodged by the Haryana Police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS), and also filed a chargesheet against Chhinderpal Singh alias Kewal, his nephew Yadvinder Singh, Gopal Lal Anjana, Bhola Singh and Harjeet Singh.
According to investigation, Chhinderpal Singh and Yadvinder Singh had allegedly purchased opium from Gopal Lal Anjana of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. A part of the consignment was reportedly sold to Bhola Singh, Jasmeet Singh and Harjeet Singh, while the remaining quantity was seized by Haryana Police from the possession of Chhinderpal Singh and Yadvinder Singh.
An ED statement said it was found that Yadvinder Singh and his uncle Chhinderpal Singh were involved in the purchase and sale of opium for many years with the assistance of Gopal Anjana.
It said that it has been admitted and confirmed that Gopal Lal Anjana was engaged in illegal opium trade for a long time.
The ED said, it is highly commendable that Gopal Lal Anjana has misused the opium license given to his family and used part of the produce in illicit trade for personal gain.
It said that Jasmeet Singh and Harjeet Singh have also confirmed to buy opium from Chhindarpal Singh for consumption.
Records revealed that Chhinderpal Singh was earlier convicted under sections 17 and 18 of the NDPS Act in a case registered under FIR No. 34 dated February 2, 2006. A charge sheet was also filed by the Haryana Police in another case vide FIR No. 68 dated February 1, 2022, under Section 17 of the same Act.
