Authorities in New Hampshire are searching for the Grinch responsible for shooting a couple Christmas– Yard inflatables inspired by a cute gingerbread man with a hole in his head.
Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, “a firearm was fired at several Christmas inflatable displays,” police say in what police say was probably a drive-by. shootingPolice in Bow, a small town near Concord, the capital of New Hampshire, Wrote on Facebook.
Homeowner Alicia Paul said, “I heard gunshots and then woke up my husband, and there was again gunfire.” told WCVB.
The couple said they became confused by the noise and went back to bed. The next morning, neighbors said they also heard gunshots – and Paul found shell casings on the ground.
“It wasn’t just one, it was two snowmen, and the gingerbread has a hole in the head,” she said.
The couple placed 28 festive items on their patio, which they said were meant to bring joy to the community during the holiday season.
“It’s sad. The inflatables have been out for several years, and they were supposed to bring joy to the season, and it kind of feels like it’s putting a stain on that,” said Alicia Paul.
Police said they believed the shots were fired from the road, leading investigators to believe the alleged perpetrator or perpetrators were either inside a vehicle or standing in the street.
“This act of vandalism is not only destructive to private property, but more importantly, it poses a serious and reckless threat to the residents of this neighborhood,” police wrote online.
Police said if a suspect or suspects are arrested, charges of criminal mischief and reckless conduct involving a firearm could potentially be filed.
No one was injured in the firing.
Homeowner David Paul told the outlet, “Obviously, it’s a stupid thing that somebody did. It’s immature, it’s not cool, and if they get caught, it will ruin their right to own a rifle or a pistol or whatever.”
Police have increased patrols in the neighborhood and have asked anyone with a home security camera in the area to share any footage they have from that night.
Alicia Paul said, “They’re hoping people will make suggestions. Someone can brag about doing it, and hopefully, if it’s a little kid, they’ll learn it’s not safe.”
Police Chief Kenneth Miller said they were “fortunate” that no one was injured in the shooting.
“To possibly discharge a firearm from a vehicle in a residential area shows a shocking disregard for the safety of our community,” Miller said.
