Portuguese police arrest 37 people suspected of involvement in far-right groups hate crimeA large operation involving approximately 300 police officers was carried out in association with similar international organizations.
“Those who were detained…were promoted Nazi “This is an ideology inherent in the culture of state socialism and the radical violent far right, with racist and xenophobic motives aimed at intimidating, persecuting and attacking minorities, namely immigrants,” a spokesman for the judicial police said in a statement.
Tuesday’s search uncovered different types of weapons and neo-Nazi propaganda material.
Police sources said the group was called “1143”, named after the year Portugal Become a kingdom.
The group’s leader, Mario Machado, is serving time in prison after being convicted of racial profiling, hate speech and related violence.
In June, police arrested several neo-Nazi suspects believed to be trying to form an illegal armed militia and seized guns and explosives.

Human rights groups have long expressed concern about growing hate speech and attacks against immigrants in Portugal. Chega, the far-right anti-immigration party, became the second-largest parliamentary group last year, 50 years after the country’s overthrow of a fascist dictatorship.
Chega leader Andre Ventura finished second in the first round of the presidential election on Sunday, setting up a runoff with Socialist candidate Antonio Jose Seguro.
